Arnab Goswami gave his resignation from Times Now. To some sections of the Indian polity, this is music to their ears. According to them, they will be able to use their 9PMs better by listening to music or news where there is no, so called ‘panel-bashing’.

I also felt that the Newshour saturated to quite an extent. They were bringing in the same panelisits on different topics which was affecting the quality of the show as we weren’t treated to new opinions. The show had nothing new to offer. Sure, it was gobbling up the TRPs on television and hooked millions of Indians to the screen, but it was bereft of any journalistic quality.

After listening to a ‘Newshour’ debate, there was nothing I could take out of it. Arnab Goswami is not a good mediator and he often ate up most of the screen time rather than give his panelists a chance.

Arnab was getting typecasted as a kind of annoying figure on TV. Facebook and other social networking sites were making fun of him through memes and videos. Such consequences doesn’t bode well for any journalist, let alone Goswami. Regardless of the endless and useless banters, shouts and the ‘India wants to know’s, he is a great and learned journalist.

He is a powerhouse of personality and has the knowledge and the swagger to become a global name in journalism. I always thought that he was capable of much more than just a 9 o’clock engagement at ‘Newshour’.

Love him or hate him, Arnab Goswami is the face of Indian Journalism.

Arnab Goswami is the only Indian journalist who has the potential to represent India on the global stage. He is the only one who can pitch against the BBCs, the FOXs and the Al Jazeeras who are operating on a global scale.

It is not easy to ask daunting questions to egoistic and powerful personalities. Arnab not only asks questions but he brings them to the edge of their seats. He knows what to ask and when to ask.

I am happy, not because the ‘Newshour’ is closing because of his resignation, but I can now look forward to more quality and a more concrete form of journalism. No more ill-mannered panelists whom Arnab has to kick out of the show, and no more ‘Sanjay Jha’.

This new beginning was much needed not only for Arnab Goswami but also for us. The public need a higher form of debate and journalism and Arnab can now provide that.

Good and positive times for Indian journalism.
